72% of Aussie Blokes Don't Seek Help For Their Mental Health.

I'm not surprised but at the same time I'm surprised. In Australia we are lucky to have a reasonably robust health system with lots of services available yet men struggle to reach out and seek help.
And so here in Australia and I'm sure elsewhere around the world, there appears to be a silent epidemic unfolding. And no, it's not COVID but perhaps has been exacerbated by it (lock downs, restrictions, forced changes to routines, lack of connection with people, job losses, relationship breakdowns etc...) but rather its is the persistent deterioration of men's mental health.
So what was already an issue may well be even worse, right now. I'm passionate about men's health and men's mental health is fast becoming a hot topic of discussion and so it should.
But it's a highly complex area that requires dedicated support and so I implore Aussie blokes to reach out and seek help in any way you can. There's nothing to be ashamed about when you ask for help.
Today, more than ever there appears to be more and more services being made available. I've made a list of some below:
Mensline Australia A great service just for men. Mensline Australia covers services that deal with relationships, fatherhood/parenting, anger management, stress, mental health, family violence and has access to services that are via phone, online & video 24/7.
Dads In Distress Provides support for all parents experiencing the trauma and pain of a relationship breakdown. Note; the services are available on Mon-Sat and 8:30am - 5pm AEST.
Beyond Blue Beyond Blue works with the community to improve mental health and prevent suicide, so that all people in Australia can achieve their best possible mental health.
Lifeline Lifeline is a national charity providing all Australians experiencing emotional distress with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.
SANE Catering to all Australians, SANE have counseling and peer support services available. Counseling is available 10am - 10pm via online chat, phone or email. Peer support services can be very powerful ways to obtain help from people who you can relate with. Available via email (they will respond within 48 hours).
